Awesome learner's group last night
I wanted to say "thank you" to Dan Harper for leading the Learner's Group last night. He did a lot of preparation, and it showed. In case you missed it, he posted on his blog a summary of his lesson. Great stuff!

I wanted to comment on your posting about the Amish, and found this site, as the others seemed not to have a way to make comments.
I believe the Amish have the most rightful perspective about most things than just about any group of people left in this mixed up, crazy world.
I certainly believe in shunning as well, and believe there are grounds in the Bible supporting this, direct or implied.
For instance i believe I am inline to shun the many ladies down through the years whom I have tried to develop a relationship and offer Christian love and friendship, that seem to reject this. I am 47 years of age, and no lady of any sort has ever seemed to want anything to do with me. I will now never know the joy of having children, grandchildren, etc. I have always wanted to be able to give back and pass something along to someone else. But no one has ever given me the opportunity. I cannot understand why. I have just basically worked my whole adult life, and absolutely nothing else. This is just not right. God Bless.
Is it a sin to pray to the Virgin Mary and other dead saints?
Matthew 4:10 Then Jesus said to him, "Go Satan! For it is written,' "You shall worship the Lord your God, and serve Him only.' "
Praying to any person or anything is worship.
WORSHIP DEFINED: To revere, stressing the feeling of awe or devotion. Adoring reverence or regard.
Any worship of anyone or anything other than God is sin.
The Virgin Mary is not God nor does she have the power to grant petitions of prayer. If men could pray to dead saints and get them answered, then why not pray to saint Moses, saint John The Baptist, saint Abraham, saint Job, saint Enoch, saint The Thief on The Cross or any other dead saint?
Dead people cannot hear your prayers and if they could they would not have the power to answer them.
Prayer is worship and only God deserves our worship.
God knows our every thought. God is aware of every sin we commit. God knows our every move.
God is omniscient, omnipresent, and omnipotent. Those are the attributes of God and what you would need in order to answer prayer.
Neither the Virgin Mary, Moses, John The Baptist nor any otherdead saint has the attributes of God. They cannot hear you nor can they answer YOUR PRAYERS.
YES, TO PRAY TO ANYONE OTHER THAN GOD IS A SIN!

All Saints' Chapel, 2451 Ridge Rd., one block north of Hearst between Euclid and Scenic.
Mixed-Book singing every 1st Monday, 7-8 p.m. Cooper, Eclectic Harmony and Norumbega Harmony loaners available. You are also invited to bring photocopies of songs from other books or original compositions (15 copies should be more than enough).
